Barcode Scanning Questions

Common questions about product codes, formats, and troubleshooting.

What is the difference between UPC and EAN?

UPC-A (Universal Product Code) is the standard 12-digit format used primarily in the United States and Canada. EAN-13 (European Article Number) is the 13-digit standard used globally. Our scanner automatically detects and reads both formats instantly.

Why isn't the barcode scanning?

If the camera isn't detecting the code, try these tips:

  • Lighting: Ensure the barcode is well-lit. Use the "Flashlight" button if needed.
  • Distance: Move your camera slightly closer or further away to help the auto-focus lock on.
  • Damage: If the label is wrinkled or torn, try flattening it or entering the numbers manually.
Can I use this to find book prices?

Yes. By scanning the ISBN barcode on the back of a book, you can instantly search for that specific edition on Google or Amazon to compare prices, check resale value, or read reviews.

Can I scan a barcode from a saved photo?

Absolutely. Switch to the "Image Upload" tab at the top of the scanner. You can then select any image file (JPG, PNG) from your device gallery containing a barcode, and our tool will decode it instantly.

Do you save the products I scan?

No. Your scanning history is stored locally in your browser's temporary memory for your convenience. We do not track, store, or sell data about the products you scan.
